Metal Roofing 101

  • Metal roofing is the most durable of the common roofing options for homes and buildings today.
  • Standing seam metal roofs can protect homes for 50 to 100 years (and more) if properly cared for. That’s because standing seam metal roofs have no exposed fasteners, meaning few points where water can get through and compromise the structure.
  • Metal roofing, while slightly more expensive than shingles, will generally pay for itself for homeowners who stay in the home for 20+ years.
  • Traditional “ag panels” or ribbed roofing panels are also incredibly durable, but they do require a little more monitoring after 25+ years due to the “exposed” screws that hold them in place. They can be revitalized for another 20+ years with a coat of paint.
